Wedged like a grape between Brazil’s gargantuan thumb and Argentina’s long forefinger, Uruguay is South America’s smallest country. we decided to go to Colonia because we were told it was a smaller and more charming town. They were right. We are staying at a hotel in old town which is an UNESCO sight . Great hotel, Hotel Italiano, perfect location with an indoor and outdoor pool. However, you will see many fashion don'ts in the pool area. The streets are cobble stone and the restaurants are small and inviting. People gather at the point to watch the sunset (9:05 pm) and it was breath taking. Very happy we put this on the itinerary. The exchange is $1 US =25 Ur. They will take US dollars or AR pesos. PS Anne and I have agreed not to post pictures of ourselves..........we have looked better.

We got an early start and left Buenos Aires for the ferry to Colonia, Uruguay ( the country that feels a need for three U's) We took only two days clothes and left our luggage in BA.
